Today we have a lovely proposal story from a future bride. What started out as a simple family vacation, soon turned into a big deal. And with the help of Stephanie’s family, Giovanni was prepared to ask the question of his life to his real life Juliet.
What Shakespeare Inspired
My family and I visited Germany and Italy for vacation last month. One of the many places we visited in Verona, Italy was the Casa de Giuletta. We toured the house and both my boyfriend Giovanni and I stepped onto the notorious balcony where both Romeo and Juliet professed their love for each other. Unbeknownst to me, a proposal was about to happen.
We stood on the balcony, looked down into the courtyard to have our picture taken by my aunt and uncle that were waiting down in the courtyard. They knew what was about to happen but I had no clue. My other aunt with a video camera was waiting as well behind me on the balcony along with my mom and dad.
Gino and I turned around to step back into the house when he stopped me and said “Wait, I want to ask you something.” I looked at him and said, “Gino, what are you doing? We need to hurry and get off the balcony, people are waiting to take their turn on the balcony.”
He then proceeded with his proposal and asked me to marry him. I was shocked to say the least, accepted his proposal and began to cry. We were both so nervous that he tried to put the ring on my right hand and I had to redirect him to place it on my left hand.
My aunt videotaping was so excited she ran to the balcony and yelled down to everyone, “He proposed!” Then everyone starting clapping and cheering for us. That was so romantic and the best story ever that I love repeating each time I’m asked about our engagement.
Stephanie and Giovanni plan to be married October of 2013. We wish them the best of luck and thank them for sharing their love story with us.
