Today’s blog submission is from The Guayabera Shirt Store.
The guayabera has long been the most iconic piece of clothing associated with Latin America and the Caribbean. This traditional style has since moved beyond the bounds of its origin and is oft seen at a variety of occasions across the US. This growing popularity apart from its homeland has brought with it many alterations to the typical form of the garment, including alternative fabrics and even women’s and children’s styles.
So what makes it a “true” guayabera? The use of lightweight, light colored fabric (typically linen, sometimes cotton), 4 front pockets, stripes of pleating or embroidery and a straight bottom hem.
Surprisingly enough (or perhaps not) the guayabera is a favorite for many on the wedding day. Whether for the groom, wedding party, or guests, these shirts can easily be incorporated.
Who should wear the guayabera?
1. The Groom
Nothing could be more perfect than wearing a “Mexican Wedding Shirt” at a destination beach wedding. This is a perfect locale to break away from the traditional full suit and embrace a more weather appropriate, relaxed look.
2. The Groomsmen
With detailing that’s easy on the eyes, the pleated or embroidered stripes will add an elegant touch to your groomsmen while keeping it simple.
3. The Wedding Guest
When your goal is style without the stuffiness, the guayabera is a great alternative and with its straight hemline, it’s meant to be worn untucked.
